At the moment, the only graphic novel that exists for most literary critics is Persepolis, which passes the Canonical tests on several counts, it is from 'away', so it is exotic. It's a bit pricey, but if you are fan of what Hickman has been doing on the Avengers titles, this massive hardcover is the kind of thing you need on your bookshelf. In 2012 Kat joined the Board of Directors of Reading With Pictures, a nonprofit organization that "advocates the use of comics in the classroom to promote literacy and improve educational outcomes for all students."

Incorporating visual rhetoric into your curriculum will also require students to practice higher learning critical thinking and analytical skills emphasized in an AP curriculum.
