The Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel Maus is not only a great read, but illuminates important parts of history (most notably the Holocaust) in an incredibly vivid and powerful way. Still, it should definitely lose points for having My Chemical Romance cover a Bob Dylan song at the end. This work is HIGHLY recommended for all fans of Gaiman, Graphic Novels, and very deep and cool dark fantasy stories. I would also include Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’s Watchmen (1986). Their format--combining words and sequential images--may hold power for an even younger audience.
